Science on Screen, where we pair fun films with mini-presentations by local experts with a goal to promote scientific literacy through entertainment.
March 27th Film: Fitzcarraldo - directed by Werner Herzog
Speaker: Thom Davis, Professor of glacial geological research at Bentley University.
Title of talk: Moving mountains: Obsession in an unforgiving environment
Professor Davis will discusses the science of snow and snow-making, and the yearly man-against-nature effort to ensure that Maine's ski mountains are blanketed with snow.
Date & Times: Tuesday, March 27th
The evening will begin at 6:00pm with an informal gathering with the presenter. The lecture will begin at 6:30 and will be followed by the film at 7:00. A brief discussion will be held post-screening.
Cost: Admission for this event is $8.00 for the public, FREE for members of The Gem and is FREE to high school students.
